Investigation of the mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour of hybrid L 80 Type 1 and duplex steel joints produced by magnetically impelled arc butt welding

In the field of deep geothermal energy, mono-tube design will be increasingly used in future, as significant cost savings can expected production boreholes up to depths 6000 m. The previously bolting pipe lengths by means sleeves contributes significantly construction costs. addition, there is an increased risk failure for sleeve bolting, especially if different materials have layers purpose increasing corrosion resistance. Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt Welding (MIAB) was direct welding segments with complete elimination socket bolting. process, casing material (L80 Type 1), which a cost-effective standard material, and corrosion-resistant duplex steel (1.4462) were hybrid welded. results show excellent properties both terms mechanical It shown that advantages MIAB process joining these successfully overcome metallurgical challenges. This new approach borehole liners contribute reduction boreholes.
